HEMANTH

[Thus wrote Hemanth {previously published email address removed}. I would be embarrassed if I had such worshippers. Sri Sri Ravishankar, please read and weep. To answer your worshipper who asked if I was mad, I assure you that I am merely confused, not mad. I am confused regarding why your worshippers write such emails to me when I have not written a single negative comment about their “Gurudev.” Gurudevji, if you are here for the first time, please read my final word on you.]

  1. Atanu- I have learnt a lot from your writings. When things look bleak, and the heart despairs about India, I read your stuff and feel encouraged that there ar more competent people than I worrying about India.

All that said, you are a little off here- there really was no need to publish the poor guy’s email id. (You could have published the email without the id). That is taking unfair advantage of your power (i.e. the power that comes from being a fairly well know blogger).

    Regards,
    Shiv

Atanu’s response: Shiv, you are right. I should not have published the guy’s email address. I stand corrected and I am removing it. I am, however, puzzled why the most passionate defenders of SSRS appear to be totally incoherent in their defense and are incapable of a single properly spelled sentence (to say nothing of the grammar.) It does not speak very highly of SSRS that his followers (at least the ones who fly off the handle) are intellectually challenged (to use a politically correct form of the more earthy word “stupid.”)

  3. Just because the person has a poor hold on the English language doesn’t mean that you must make comments about the followers of SSRS.

Disclaimer : Have no connection to SSRS. Not attended his course, neither do I have any idea about the Art of Living course.

Atanu’s response: Vivek, the point isn’t their grammar or their spelling. The point is their incomprehension of my position and their rabid response in sending me hate mail. That they cannot string together a bunch of words even, leave alone making a coherent argument is what puzzles me about some of the SSRS followers. My emphasis is on the quality of the argument, not the quality of the expression.

  4. I agree with your views on SSRS. The courses on Sudarshan Kriya are quite useful (my wife attended those). But they are not SSRS’s invention (nor does he claim so).The courses concentrate on technique on all those except the last, which is solely devoted to spreading SSRS’s cult and an attempt is made by his disciples to proselytize the audience to the personality centric cult of SSRS.

  5. Atanu,

I’m really scared…anything that has such a hold over the mind cannot be a good thing.

  7. I am simply amazed at Hemanth’s comment and sentiments. I have never had any association with AOL but a friend of mine did get over a lot of his undesirable traits of negative feelings. But this guy is just the opposite. Anyone contemplating AOL will not do so after reading such ardent followers. He is praising the person and killing his ideas… I too like atleast the image of a happy and smiling saint or person or whatever. Imitiation is best form of flattery, so Hemant should become what he is trying to preach esle he has just missed the boat and is one unhappy traveller. He hasn’t got over his past or else the past is so dark that he keeps regressing to it.

Why any Gurudev, I have seen and heard such passion from followers or marketeers of Amway!

  8. Atanu,

Is this the second instalment of report on “Panned-IIT” meet, in which you met SSRS in flesh & blood?

    I so, good one:)

  9. Hi Atanu,

That kind of mail you received really shouldn’t come as such a surprise. There would neither be organized religion nor a belief in some fictitious entity called “god” if there were not so many people who so easily believe someone or the other to be a god.

From what little experience I have with such “believers”, I feel you simply cannot bring about a change in firmly held beliefs. The change has to come from themselves.

In the meantime, ignoring them is the best bet!

  11. Is this the ‘promised’ next installment of ‘IIT–Inspire, Involve and Transform’? I am sorry to see the tone/humor much altered to say the least! 😦

  12. Hi Atanu,
You must realize, first thing Sri Sri has over a million followers. When you comment on someone with such a massive following, you must also be ready to take some brickbats/outbursts of this nature. If you are not ready, then in the first place refrain from publishing your views. To expect all the million devotees of Sri Sri (or for that matter any celebrity) be capable of responding in a mature manner (and in good english) is something unthinkable of! And I feel, your response to the emotional outburst of one email was another emotional outburst… for there was really no need to publish that email and start this thread all over again especially after “Your Final Word”.

  13. This should of course be posted here instead:

Of course Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is God. I am God, and so are you too. Why are you wasting time arguing such simple concepts? The Bible says: Be still and know that I am God. This is a rare one to be taken too litterally!

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the Art of Living-courses are available to practically experience enlightenment, not talk about it.

What _I_ find shallow is the overly focus on India and economic/cultural prosperity in this blog. It is like USA thinking of itself as “the world”, and then reel in that mindset for years and decades. It makes you blind to the greater perspective.

Isn´t better to expand the mind? We ALL depend on eachother, for most everything, but especially with new nano-technology on the horizont and other exotic developments. Unconnected with this, Sri Sri has said that the world is not a safe place, as long as there is one corner where terrorists live. That is why we need to spread awareness, joy and precious knowledge to every people on this planet.

We cannot win this so-called “war on terrorism” with bloodshed. Only joy, knowledge and LOVE is potent enough. The time to start is NOW, and the place is with OUR SELF.

You should listen more to talks by Sri Sri and attend his courses, which are graced by him by wonderful volunteer teachers. You cannot read it from books, and arguing on the net may actually be a hindrance (woe me! ;-). Truth is something very Personal, that is why Guru comes in person to us. Guru is in you. Is in me. Is God. Is Teacher of Discovering your True Self. And also a happy fool! God is a fool! Don´t try to understand, just relax and enjoy the show!

Putting emails up for show, is a cheap thrill, but truth is for everyone – and attracting every type of person is a sign of a true master. The strong mind will pursue to enlighten / empower others, not ridicule them.

I do not enjoy winning an argument, so I won´t. I bow down to your intellect, which is very admirable. This post is just a poor attempt to point to something beyond the confines of our mind.

  14. I found the AoL basic course quite beneficial when I took it quite a few years ago. It is indeed useful to alleviate sress and get started on a spiritual path. Later I stopped attending AoL events as it has become too much of a cult.

‘to practically experience enlightenment’? What a foolish statement, what a gross exaggeration. I think Atanu has summed it up precisely, it is a useful cult.

  17. I just accidentally happened to tread upon this blog. I feel before talking about anybody, let us just find out really what kind of a person he is. Trying to find out about the person by talking about him is not a good idea. First of all, do we know everything about ourselves??? When we know only little about ourselves, how can we expect to know about someone through the perception of few people? First let us all take the step of knowing ourselves…Are we our body? (If we are our body and suppose, our hand gets cut off, do we call ourselves Our body minus our hand???)…Are we our mind?….Who are we? “Who am I?” is the wonderful question that we should be asking. Once we know who we are, we would obviously know who everybody else is including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
