Atanu Dey on India’s Development

Oh noes, the internets are down!!

For the last few days, internet service has been terrible at my end and I could not get online. Tata Indicom VSNL at its best. And when I tried to call in to their customer service, I realized how utterly miserable that company is. Not only do you get put on hold, but while on hold they have the most astonishingly irritating music that they play at an ear-shattering volume, and interrupt it every few seconds to announce, “Tata Indicom, the best way to connect to the Internet”, “We know your time is valuable and appreciate the time you have taken to call us”, “Please continue to hold as our customer service executives will be with you shortly”, and other such inane bullshit.

Tata Indicom is a pathetic, worthless, vile corporation run by a gang of stupid cretins whose head honcho must be a lobotomized comatose moron if this is the best that it can do.

  1. I advice you follow abdul kalam’s precious suggestion. ” Dream , dream…only then India will become superpower “.

Recently , you might be aware , 2 Indian Airlines pilots put that into practice. They slept well and bingo! The plane landed safely!!

    Sarcasm off/

  2. At least when you do get to a customer service representative, they are a native speaker of your language. 😉

  3. No, Ike, most business in cities is conducted in English. However, but for one or two percent of Indians, English is not a native language. My mother tongue is not shared by the majority of Indians, and indeed, no Indian’s mother tongue is shared by a majority of Indians. So in all probability, if the customer service person were to speak to me in his or her mother tongue, it would be a very brief conversation.

  6. Pankaj, it’s the only game in town where I live. Lack of competition, sunk costs, switching costs, etc, lead to the unfortunate fact that I have to be a Tata Indicom customer.

  7. Possibility of this type of service issues are at most of the places…. as indians we are not willing to pay for service as it’s not visible compared to products. And Service providers are taking it for granted….:)

  9. I had Tata Indicom’s net conn too and I don’t want to go through the horror again! Though I had other options, I somehow fell into their marketing trap and took a pre-paid connections. Pathetic network, even worse customer service and to top it all, their helpline.

So, I can perfectly understand the agony you are going through!!

But Atanu, how do you think they are surviving in this competitive market? Is everyone offering poor services then?!
